I worked with Dan for 30 years until my retirement in 2014 – first as a fellow director of Mercia Brocades, then Mercia Diagnostics and finally at Microgen Bioproducts, the company he founded and was so rightly proud of.  
 
I owe Dan so much for the opportunities he gave me and the faith he put in me over those years. Our personalities were very different, but our relationship was one based on mutual respect for those differences and an unspoken trust between us. I always valued Dan’s intellect, wit, generosity, understanding and passionate commitment to his causes. He always lived for today.
 
If I have one regret it is that I did not keep in touch in the years since I moved to Norfolk - now I can’t. I should learn a lesson from that.
