We remember Dan for his vitality and dynamism, warmth and humour, intelligence, generosity of spirit, individuality and great sense of fun.
He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and its traditions and was happy sharing them with others, even Sassenachs! He was a keen sportsman throughout his life, initially with rugby and latterly he greatly enjoyed golf in his retirement. He was very generous in sharing his time and knowledge coaching aspiring young players at Chobham Rugby Club.
We remember fabulous Burns Night evenings at the Club – Dan was a brilliant showman at these events and was well matched with glorious counterpoint from his Lassies.
Dan loved life, his growing family, sport, travel, good food and wine and he had many friends.
We remember many Christmas drinks, neighbours’ gatherings, rugby club do’s, summer barbecues and Christmas Lights celebrations. Dan was always a source of energy, enthusiasm, fun and laughter at these events. Liz and I have known him as friend and next-door neighbour for more than 28 years; it is difficult to take on board his passing and we are deeply saddened by it. Dan was cruelly taken much too soon and our hearts go out to Margaret and all his family.
Due to current restrictions, we can only watch the service of remembrance online but we will be there with you in spirit. We send a big thank you to the family for the wonderful Tribute to Dan website.
So, fare thee well, Dan, and rest in peace. You lived life to the full, gave a lot, touched the lives and hearts of many and your memory will live on with us all.
